WorldWide Telescope

WorldWide Telescope is a piece of software created by Microsoft Research where you have access to images from telescopes all around the globe, assembled into a big image of the nightly sky. You can zoom in and see distant galaxies in the Hubble "Ultra Deep Field", or study the surface of the sun, the planets or their moons. You can even choose to see images other than purely optical once, like images made up by infrared light or radio signals.

There are also several Guided Tours you can watch. Here you could get an experienced astronomer or astrophysicist to show you around in the universe, while he or she explains what it is that you are watching.

You could also take a tour around in our own solar system, see the planets orbits and where they are, and also fast forward or rewind in time, to see into the future or past.

For anybody interested in astronomy and outer space, WorldWide Telescope is a dream come through.
